Engine Stalling -'95Aero 5spd with TCS

My wife's Aero has now stalled out 3 times in a couple of months. The car seems to start and run normally, then suddenly begins a chugga-chugga and completely stalls out. The engine may run roughly for a few seconds, or stall. After a few seconds the car restarts and runs normally. Check engine light comes on, and goes off after a day or so. I've driven the car after these events, and there is nary a blip or stutter. She says it feels as if she can't give it any gas.
I've checked for vacuum leaks, and do not see anything obvious, though the hoses do appear old. The fuel pump is 1 1/2yrs old. The DI 2yrs. The car is about due for a major, so the air filter may be an issue, but I've never had an air filter so dirty that the car would not run. The fuel filter was replaced a year ago after the fuel pump.
It seems to happen on cold days after sitting for a while. Today she got a couple of miles before dying, usually it is sooner.
I don't think the TCS is involved, as that light does not come on except when the engine is stalled completely. My indy is 50mi away, so when I get a chance I'd like him to check the codes with his TechII, but not an easy thing to do now.
Any suggestions for this sudden stall and then seemingly completely normal return to health? Wife seems to tolerate this sudden failure, but it ain't safe, and is very disconcerting!
Thanks!
