Much of the info on what you need to think about and look for is there.
The later models (96-98) are generally better.
Quasi's site will tell you all about the major issues on 9Ks:
Heater cores and blower motors, engine mounts (there are 4), DI cassettes, auto trannies, serp belts and pulleys and assorted other goodies.
Try hard to get service records, but you can probably tell a good car from a beat one. Run a CARFAX report. Have a Saab indy give the car a thorough check before you pull the trigger.
If you do your own work you are better off than being a checkbook mechanic. These are reasonable cars to work on if you are at all handy, and it saves a lot of money.
And always come here for help and advice!
