(Throw all this out the window if you have rear AC -- that's uncharted territory for me. Let's assume for argument that you do NOT have rear AC but the standard setup with "dumb" fans in the back doors.)

The rear fans just blow whatever air comes to them through the "gills" in the underside of the armrests in the rear doors -- so eventually they'll end up blowing the hot air from the front once it reaches them. They don't actually have any ability to regulate temperature.

Often, when the little fan that lives behind the "bullseye" on the dashboard (near your seat heater rheostats) gives up the ghost, the system will default to hot air. I don't know if this is by design, but I like to think the Swedes were looking to prevent freezing damage to the driver and passenger if something went awry in the climate control system during the long harsh Swedish winter.

Hard to tell how to diagnose if this is your problem without swapping in a known-good sensor. Not too terribly expensive if you want to go that route (see site sponsors here, notably eEuroparts).

Have you tried resetting your ACC unit by pressing the VENT and AUTO buttons simultaneously? This will also give you fault codes (do a search on how to read them) although I have seen bad air sensors not give any codes.

Seems from my own experience that this sensor is more prone to failure than your mixer flap actuators, though as Bill states that is a definite possibility also. It's certainly easier to try replacing that sensor first before taking on the stepper motors buried under all that dashboard. They fail with enough regularity that I'd recommend biting the bullet and replacing the sensor rather than trying your luck with a used part.
