I agree with Street's comments about the aftermarket

cabin filter. The one in Matt's picture is from eEuroparts.com. I was surprised after removing my stock filter (filthy to the point that there was no pleating at the bottom of the filter due to dirt build-up) and replacing it with the pictured part to see that the filtration quality was hardly better than without running a cabin filter at all (which I did for about two weeks.) There is also an aftermarket filter distributed by Scan-Tech, which is sold by WorldPac retailers (ImportedCarParts.com, for example) which is superior to the German-made filter sold by eEuroparts. I have used this filter previously, and it has proven both effective as a filter, and also has a frame which is separable into two parts. This separation allows you to replace the filter media with material from a high-quality home HVAC air filter, if you want to go to the effort (it is more work, but far less expensive in the long run.)
