I'm currently experiencing a dead thermoswith myself in my 93 CDE, and in my testing I was able to confirm it was not the fan by jumping the relay pins 3 and 5 -- fan will run all the time in this way, regardless of the condition of the thermoswitch. By this I mean remove the relay from its socket (located in the relay box in front of the battery), look at the bottom of the relay for the labels for pins 3 and 5, and then jump the sockets in the junction box. If fan is good, it will run.
To further confirm the deadness of your switch, what you want to do is remove the connector from the switch, and in the female side of the connector, jump the black wire (ground) in turns to the white and blue wires. Fan should run both ways when you turn the key to the "on" position.
I'm not sure if this applies the same way to earlier model years, as some of them had two-wire rather than three-wire thermoswitches; likewise I believe things are different for 95 and up, if memory serves.
