The link below will get you in, then click "Enter," "Technical documents", then to "Transmission," and finally, "FLOW CHARTS FOR DIAGNOSING 9000 AUTO TRANS PROBLEMS".
Using your symptoms, you should get a pretty good idea of what the problem is.
However, if you have not had a fluid flush/change in the last 15,000 miles, I would do that IMMEDIATELY. If your fluid is old/dirty/smells burnt, the longer your drive this car that way, the more damage you will do to the transmission, which will lead to $1800 for the tranny, + $1200 for labor to replace it, or a new car for you.
Governor seals are quite simple--I did it in about two hours, and the parts cost about $45 from Eriksson Industries.
However, the best advice we can give you is to take care of it right away. Find a competent SAAB-friendly shop that you trust to take care of it.
