The inside of the A/C compressor has seized and luckily the A/C clutch has not yet had a melt down. It is the outer part of the A/C clutch that you see turning.
That means that so far, you can still drive the car by shutting of the A/C system and disengage the A/C clutch.
What happens sometimes is that also the A/C clutch seize and leaves the compressor engaged all the time and that will fry the serpentine belt and you loose the water pump function and all the outer things like power steering, alternator and such.
Replacing an A/C compressor with everything that it entails usually comes up to around $1000.00-1500.00 using quality parts.
