is certainly different from your '88 - it's a plug-in electronic unit rather than the vacuum system on cars up to abour 1993. There is a wiring diagram on the Kremlin-sponsored site mentioned in a post below, hijacked from the Mitchell Repair CD, which just happens to be for 1997 cars.
I fitted one of these to my own '97 Anniversary a couple of weeks ago. There are only three basic components: the control lever, the switch or switches for brake and clutch pedals (just the brake on autos), and the box ot tricks mounted on the back of the glove compartment. This has a cable to the throttle and this cable can be replaced separately. without removing the CC unit.
I can tell you about the easy stuff. Problems often seem to arise from the pedal switches. These have little plastic horns and clips which can break so the switch moves and doesn't make contact with the pedal lever. Suggest your first stop is the footwell - check if both switches are in place and are working properly. If either of these switches is in "piston out" mode you won't get cruise. They aren't adjustable, by the way.
Also check the fuses - think these are 2, 3 and 24 (maybe that last one is just if you have TCS). They might indicate the source of a problem in conjunction with the wiring diagram.
I'd normally suggest you look at Townsend Imports' site but I have an idea this only covers the vacuum version.
