I have 91 9000 cd that lost its power assist braking and ABS well over a year ago. I Had it checked out then, and the cost of repair was more than I was able to do at the time. Ever since then I have been driving it without power assist and ABS.
Miraculously, last week (18 mo's later) the power brakes awoke from the dead. I took it in and had the brakes flushed. My Indy suspects that the wrong fluid (dot 3) may have been added in the past. He even showed me a sample of the fluid. I guess it must have made an impression on him. It looked like used motor oil. After the flush my ABS returned as well. It is now day 11 with power. I hope this takes care of it.
also...
I had done a few brake test runs the day I lost my power brakes and ABS.
on occasion my power brakes would work for one day out of every 4 mo's or so.
and I never had the brake system flushed since I have owned it. (it is now year 4)who knows how long that fluid was in there.
my brakes still feel mushy with power-assist(as they did before the failure) ...hard as a rock during failure, of course.
It appears I may have got a lucky break
