lowered suspension problems Posted by Daven [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Hey everyone.
I have a '92 9KT that I recently put lowering springs on that were on my late '91 9KT. I had Bilsteins all around with Swedish Dynamics springs. It was a pretty firm ride but in the '91 everytime I would drive over rough roads and hit a big bump there would be a loud/hard bang from either the left or right (depending which side I took the bump on). They didn;t even have to be potholes, it happened more often on bumpy roads or a sudden dip like a frostheave. I replaced the Bilsteins with OEM Sachs but the problem was still there, though to a lesser degree. The BANG was so hard that I've broken both hedlight mounting "buckets" or brackets.
NOW that I've put them on my '92 (which is ever-so-slightly lower on the left front than the right front) I get the BANG only on the left. ALL the motor mounts are new and there appears to be no play in the control arms.
MY QUESTION:
Are the shocks hitting their travel limiters? Do shocks, when mated to lowered springs need their pistons (or whatever) to be cut down? It seems to me this sound could be because the shock is MEANT to use that 2" of travel that is taken away by the lowered springs. PLEASE HELP!!!
Thanks...
