It is no rhyme and reason in what the TCS system is capable off.
That's why it is so frustrating to give "one answer solves it all" to all the TCS question on this board.
Most people want the problems to go away by waving the magic wand ones but it is not that easy.
I had a 93 9000 with TCS problem in a couple of weeks ago and it gave me the run around for a couple of hours before before I got it down on its knees begging for mercy.
This 9000 already had all the easy/cheap goodies replaced (indluding a new TB)and all hoses were hooked up properly but it didn't run right and it refused to be calibrated. One code present saying that a calibration had not been done. But no TCS light on while driving the car.
I tried about 20 times to calibrate, going through all the different computers erasing faultcodes in between every attempt but no go.
I finally plugged a new ETS computer in, got it programmed and voila, it took the calibration right away and the car ran fine.
But since I'm not into ripping a $975.00 bill just like that from a customer I plugged his old ETS ECU back in (after all, it had the latest part number) and it still refused to get calibrated the first 3 tries but SUDDENLY, the 4th attempt it took the calibration and the car ran perfect after that.
Customer was happy only having to spend $180.00 instead of more than $1000.00
I have NO CLUE why it was so stubborn but that is just the way I have seen the systems act up from time to time.
You might have read from time to time about mechanics saying that this and that model doesn't have a calibration function and this and that car needs a new ETS ECU too fix the problem. Well, you just have to try and try again .
