My 1993 9000 cde 5spd has a "gritty" feel from the steering. With the steering wheel centered if I slightly move the wheel left or right, I get a feel through the steering wheel like there is sand grinding between 2 pieces of metal.
The problem is slight and hasn't caused any problems. However, if this is something a flush could cure I would consider doing it before I had to possibly rebuild the rack.
If my hunch is correct that the power steering fluid has never been changed, then by flushing out the gunk that I's sure is in there, would any new problems arise. For example, would seals fail or would the system start leaking.
The bottom line right now for me is that I can live with the slight grinding but will leave well enough alone if the system might start leaking.
Thanks for any advice or suggestions.
