Planned two days to remove the drive train of the 95cse turbo to do the clutch, front and rear seals, and all timing chain guides. It was overly ambitious. I conceded last night when the day light runs out on me. But I got the drive train back in. Just needed to button things up.
There were a few unplanned activities. Two torx screws on the sump pan wouldn't come out. They had to be extracted. One of the two bolts on the power steering pump snapped. I simply replaced it with the PS pump and bracket from the wrecked 94cs I removed.
I found the clutch very new. (I bought the car in January to replaced the wrecked 94cs) The new clutch disk from Eeuro is 7.5mm thick. The existing is only a tiny hair less. So I put it back.
Gave the engine, transmission and the emptied engine compartment, especially the steering rack area a thorough cleansing with gunk remover and water spray from the garden hose.
The new style shift coupler was in bad shape but still useable. Put it back in but am ordering a new one.
The rest of the activities were routine. I paid attention to sealing all bolted machined surfaces. Didn't take many pictures because I was working against the clock.
Got up early this morning trying to wrap up. Found the threads on the oil cooler top connection were bared. It was ruined during removal. I think the male connector is 14mm. So even if I have a metric tap set I couldn't re-tap it because of the odd size.
Can the oil cooler be saved? I am ordering one from Eeuro anyway because I need the car to be back on the road.
