Uhhhh, ok, this is wierd. I tested the connector at the fuel pump again and got 12v, so I decided that it wasn't the relay. I bought a new fuel filter, thinking maybe the old one was clogged with something (dunno) and jacked the back end up to get at it. Unfortunately, the jack and the area the car was parked on combine to equal not enough room to get at the filter. So, disgusted, I lowered the caar back down and decided to finish checking the relays and fuses in the engine compartment as part of my "getting to know you" process. I found that the 15amp fuse in the forward block marked "Ignition" was missing completely (?), so I put a new fuse there and shut the hood. I was locking it up and thought I'd give it one more try to see if it would start. Viola! Vroom! Fired on practically the first revolution of the starter! WTF!?!?!? Is it possible that jacking it up and lowering it away might have had some efect on the fuel pump and/or filter? What was the 15amp fuse that I installed? Howdid it run without one? I have heard of the proverbial ghost in the machine and gremlins and the like ... but this is freaky.
Anyway, I took it for a 20 mile spin and it stopped and restarted without a hickup. Maybe chalk it up to good Car-ma? Maybe it is just rewarding me for fixing all the little things that the previous owner didn' take care of? I am so happy, I am going to treat it to a new set of Khumos and a wash and wax!
