What Led Me to Suspect ACC Versus Blower Motor...

Pretty much ruled out blower motor and everything else. Here's the history:
--Replaced blower fan a year ago with new.
--Blower fan suddenly wasn't working (worked on drive to work; didn't work when starting car after work)
Next day:
--Fan still didn't work in the morning.
--At lunch, pulled ACC out of dash, leaving it connected. Fan started working again, with full ability to control its speed.
--After work, fan still worked, but no ability to control vents. Recalibrated several times, got two errors on ACC. Still, the fan worked.
Driving home, recalibrated a couple more times, but now got five errors on ACC, and during the recalibration, the ACC didn't scroll up and down through the vents (at least the indicator lights didn't illuminate -- stayed on lowest vent setting). BUT, the fan still worked. And after the recalibration cycle completed, I actually COULD control the vent selection and fan.
--Yesterday morning, fan didn't work yet again, and the ACC recalibration showed NO errors. Fiddled with the ACC, unplugging it, wiggling connectors, etc. No change.
So out of all this, I concluded that the fan wasn't the problem, since at one point I was able to control the fan and its speed ranges, and since the ACC itself seemed to have problems controlling the vents.
I also disconnected the battery last night. No change today. Still no fan.
So what do you folks think? Am I right to suspect the ACC? I've been told that they tend to go, mainly due to heat issues. And I DO live in Atlanta.
