Yes, it's DIY-able. I've had two 9kTs where I've replaced the AC compressor clutch (an '86 9kT and a '93 Aero).
In both cases, you'll need a locking ring pliers as well as being able to remove the bolt. Also, in both cases, I detached the compressor from its mountings. Once you get the snap rings out, you should be able to slide the pulley and clutch assembly off without too much effort. Worst case, gently use an appropriate gear puller.
Be really, really gentle when moving the compressor and attached hoses around. The '86 went smoothly, as the AC hoses held up just fine. The '93 hose failed at one of the crimps (where it meets the rigid pipe), necessitating a hose replacement (okay, two hose replacements, as the first new one was bad), followed by a condensor replacement; the tech managed to break the fitting where the lower hose went into the condensor.
