So, I need to change my CV joint boot, and I thought I would loosen the axle nut a couple of turns before jacking up the car. Well, I forgot to tighten it before a short drive down the street and back, and now I have this terrible GROWLING NOISE from what seems like the WHEEL BEARING. Did I destroy it? By having the nut loose? I don't think it is the joint, the noise began right after the short drive. Friend says its shot, the nut needs always to be tight, if you even ROLL a car w/o axle, need to place a long bolt with nut to load the bearing.
If it is toast, what are my options-new is $$$$, used? Car is 1992 with 201k.
Thanks All
Huey
