First of all, there is not one motor for both, but one per wiper and they sit just on the end of the shaft. That's why you can't move it by hand, because it is ' in gear' .
taking the thing out is the easy part: grille out, headlight out and there it is, held by two bolts.
Opening the thing up is nearly impossible without destroying some of the tabs on the housing.
Then, having opened it up, you start wondering how it is possible that the thing parks at the right spot most of the time at all...
The mechanism that does that is 100% mechanical and works like this:
There are 3 leads to the motor: switched 12v, direct 12v and a return line. The switch is held open by a small gear. When you pull the stalk, direct 12v is applied to the motor. This will turn the small gear one position and the switch will close. The mechanism will now run for the time that the small gear needs to make 1 complete turn, After which it will push the contact open again and the wiper will stop.
The exact timing of the stop depends very much on the tension and position of the two copper lips making up the contact. With some trial and error I was able to bend the lips such that the wiper would stop in the right position again.
There is someone on the NG900 board who has a website with an illustrated write-up on the subject.
Good luck.
