By 'shifting late', I take it that it still shifts smoothly, but just at the wrong shift points. One possibility is that the govenor seals are leaking. The good thing about the govenor seals is that you can replace them with the tranny in the car, so it's not an expensive job if you pay someone to do it, and not that hard if you do it yourself. Search the archives on "govenor".
If it is starting to shift hard, that's another story. If it is only in one or two gears, it may be a broken spring in the valve body. Again, an easy repair with the tranny in the car.
It's very important to get this addressed quickly. Problems like this only get bigger, and can take out the tranny.
OK, so what to do? It doesn't hurt to call Eriksson Industries (http://erikssonindustries.com/) - They know Saab trannies. The other is to find a local transmission shop that KNOWS the ZF. This most likely won't be your local AAMCO - It'll be a high end shop that works on Saabs and BMWs. As them specifically about their ZF transmission experience in the 9000. Many shops won't work on the ZF. And it isn't a transmission you want somebody learning on.
