good seal unless you clean up the crud and corrosion from previous years. It does not take much to make things stand off. I used an old wood chisel, wire brush, and green 3m pad to make sure I got a clean contact. Also a new gasket on the thermostat. Then I used some dow molykote, or I suppose vaseline would work to grease the contacts.
I'd be looking here first. Also have you let it go to see if it continues to drop? When my cars are cold, they don't show much above min. Seems to me if I fill it to max the car will blow off a bit on a hot day to bring it back to min range when cold. If you've been having the heat we have, it may be related.
Follow Ari's advise first. Check the thermoseal too.
