Updating the disaster the other day removing the drive train in the dark whick tore off the 5 speed transmission gear rod. Two days later I got a replacement FM-57101. It was off of Ebay. Went to Connecticut to pick it up.
Was busy all day putting together the drivetrain. Found more damage on the car side. The gear rod got caught on one of the brake lines going into the ABS unit. It severed the line. I cut a piece of metric brake line, double flared the other end with a STD brake fitting inserted. Did the same on the severed end and joined with a union. It was next to impossible to get metric brake fittings on Saturday even in New Jersey. An experienced counter person at the local parts store saved the day. The fittings on the double flared connections I made were all standard.
The car will be sidelined for a few more days, as I found the front engine mount bad. Will get one right away. Is front engine mount easy to do in-car? With the drivetrain gone it is probably the easiest. But I'd also consider doing it in-car.
Whoa... The solid mount is less than half the price for the original fluid filled mount. What is the board's opinion on solid? I am cheap but am also hesitant to change the car's original equipment if it gives a bad ride. Advice is appreciated.
