Excluding the cruise control system, which up to '95 is also driven by vacuum, the engine vacuum system is quite simple - I replaced all my vacuum lines in my '94 Turbo with about 10 feet of hose. It gets more complicated on '92+ cars with Traction Control System. The cruise control's vacuum system is driven by an electric vacuum pump in the "aquarium" behind the false bulkhead; these hoses are not subject to the same engine heat and do not rot as quickly - in any case, they will not affect engine idle as they are not directly connected to the engine.
There is one hidden vacuum connection at the charcoal canister for fuel vapor recovery. This component is located inside the right front fender, can be observed by removing the right front turn signal assembly. Although it is possible, I don't think that it went bad in the short time it took you to get parts.
The only other ideas I have is that the oxygen sensor got messed up, or that the catalytic converter got plugged up from the exhaust problem.
