Recommend the term be very short Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Fri, 8 Jul 2005 05:03:44 In Reply to: Trying champion platinum resistor plugs, 97 aero auto, Thu, 7 Jul 2005 00:45:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The DI cassette in the Saab was designed to work with the NGK plugs, and pretty much vice-versa. Remember, the DI uses the spark plugs as sensors to determine things like engine timing when starting, and as the knock sensing. Other plugs will work, but there are no guarantees. Are the Champions just fine? Maybe. Is the DI getting a strange signal, so the Trionic is richening the mixture to compensate? Maybe.
If nothing else, the NGK's are available mail order. I recommend that you find some and get them back into your car as soon as practical. Are you destroying your engine and DI as we speak? No. Are you asking for trouble? Yes. Heck - buy two sets of plugs and spread the shipping over the next 50-60K miles of ownership.
