similar problem ? It's my 1995 9K Aero 5-sp. The shifer had some lateral freeplay when in gear and the shifter was moving (front to back) quite a bit with throttle in 3rd and 4th.
The shifter coupler has been replaced, also the upper torque arm bushing replaced with a two piece poly thing. The lower engine mounts look fine. Shifter now has little lateral moment (i.e. little side-to-side freeplay). However, the shifter still has strong front to back swing in 3rd with throttle (before I had front to back swing in 4th as well). Also if I use heavy throttle in 3rd, I cannot shift into 4th. I had to re-clutch to get into 4th.
If I shift normally, i.e. no sudden or heavy throttle into 3rd, everything seems to be fine going into 4th.
Am I having motor mount(s) problem or gear box problem ? I search the 9K BB and found a recent post by "winder" that mentioned similar problem and the post suggested a weakness in the 3rd gear.
How would I know it's the gear box and not the engine mounts ?
