I had done the front brakes--pads and rotors. There was some noise from them, so I took it all apart, lubed them up, eased the leading edges of the pads. Seems to be OK. Was still getting this rapping/clacking noise. GRRR!
So I put the front end on stands, have her sit in the car, fire it up and put it in Drive. Give it some gas, then brake. With no load the noise wasn't there so much, but I lay down under the car and she just kept giving it gas, then brakes. I heard the rapping noise and could see the tranny move if she got it up to 3500 rpm before getting on the brakes.
The noise was by the mount, so I shut down, took off the fender liner and could see the mount was shot. I shimmed it up with some wooden wedges and some hard rubber sheet I had around, which will be okay for a few days, as she doesn't drive far this week. The part is cheap, so as long as the repair goes smoothly all will be well!
Or so I keep telling myself!
