I've pulled the transmissions but only done the entire engine on a NG900. On the 900 the whole works is lowered to the ground. You separate the transmission after removal. The subframe is lowered first. It's not a bad job. A lot of steps but none are particularly tricky. A helper is very valuable but not required. The engine hoist IS required. You can buy one from Pep Boys for $130 now. If you've done some other mechanical jobs like brakes, alternator, water pump, starter, etc., I'd give it a try. Having someone you can call with questions is always nice, of course. But you shouldn't have many. Changing the engine is less work than rebuilding the head is. Always easier to deal with the entire engine as there is much less precision involved. Good luck.
