I think it is "impossible" (i use that lightly) to actually remove the WHOLE fan (caseing and all).
My dad who is no longer a saab tech said that when the had to change them, they would only change out the fan blade part (and not the whole caseing)
the blade comes off w/ that 1 large nut in the center, then there are more screws or bolts behind the blade to take the motor out.
I really didnt feel like changing mine, so I just left it. I am not in city traffic a lot, but the cooling effectiveness isnt really affected all that much by not having that fan. (the main radiator fan should be running also)
