Having perused the recent postings on this topic, I found it easiest to go under the dash and yank on the release wire, after removing the fuzzy gray under-dash panel. (note: you must pry out the center pimple of the plastic "rivet" to get it remove it)
Evidently, as has been noted, the steel wire stretches over time/use, but the little steel set-balls are easily adjusted with a 2.5mm allen/hex wrench.
I disconnected the wire from the under dash release pull, in order to grab it with a channel-lock plier. Reattach the hook-end to the pull before you adjust the "set-balls", so you can pull the wire all the way to the right of the car before you commence adjustment. I had a good 4cm of slack!!!
Yes, if you can "find" the "spring-lock" by probing under the grill, that may be easier, or quicker. They both release the hood's latches to the car's left, and are just inboard of the headlights. But as they are just up under the rad support, I don't think you can eyeball it.
Cheers! (and grassy-ass for the May05 thread!)
