I would get the Stock 89C stat from eeuroparts for $13.50. The later 9000s don't seem to run as hot as the earlier cars, but part of that is that the temp gauge software has been modified.
The other option would be an 82C (180)f unit, but I'd stick with Genuine Saab again (eeuroparts, $19.95). I don't think this helps as much on the newer cars, because the radiator fan is controlled by the ECU, not by a thermoswitch on the radiator. The cooler thermostat only really works with a cooler fan thermoswitch.
I would NOT get the 170F unit - that's too cool to run - that's a full 20 degrees F below the normal operating range where the engine was designed to run. And I'd never get any critical part called "Valuecraft". A thermostat failure can be catastrophic. And I've seen some aftermarket thermostats operate poorly. You get what you pay for, and $5 is too cheap for me. As for the Fail Open feature, it's a nice idea, but I'd still stick with Genuine Saab on a thermostat. It's a pain to replace, and you don't do it that often (every 3 years or so), so the extra few bucks is no big deal.
