I took OJ to the Dyno today. For those who haven't been following, I last dynoed my 1995 9000 aero 5spd w/TCS with only a 3" Downpipe and a K&N air filter, no cat and stock exhaust. the Numbers were around 234 hp & 282 torque at flywheel.
I then added SQR software, 3" cat, and 3"exhaust, plus opened up the air intake, by taking off the snorkel and drilling an extra hole in the box.
This time the numbers were 258hp & 348 torque at flywheel.
Observations: These were taken on the same dyno, so they are good for measuring some of the differences, but the numbers may not be the real numbers.
1. I've been driving like a grandma lately and I think my adaptive memory left quite a bit on the table. When I first put in the SQR I remember my clutch slipping and the boost guage going off to 3 oclock and then looking like it was going to break off. Lately it has only gone just past the end of the red and no clutch slipping. After the dyno runs I did an adaptation or two and behold the boost came back and my clutch started slipping again. I wanted to go back and redyno it, but it was late and I didn't want to spend the money. the difference is noticeable. But then I don't use that much power everyday, so I didn't notice the change.
2. This settles the fact that I likely have the stage 3 and not the stage 4 as I had thought. the weird thing is that I'm putting out stage 3 hp numbers but stage 4 torque numbers. I'm going to assume it is stage3.
3. SQR software does great things for air/fuel ratios. Much better than stock, and never too rich nor even close to being too lean.
4. 3" exhaust pays a slight toll in spool up but reaps huge dividends at upper rpms. Spoolup is about 200 rpms slower, but above 3000 rpms the flow is awesome and the comparisons really show it.
5. While peak hp gains are less than I expected, I was amazed at the horsepower gains from 3000-5000 rpms, there is at least a 35-40 hp difference. With better gas and some adaptation runs it would likely be better. Torque gains were amazing.
Overall, I'm more than happy with my car. I can easily keep up with an STI if I need to but more important, I still get 29.5 mpg in mixed driving. my black aero has all the goodies I wanted for power, plus now has the tinted windows, dark painted rims, clear corners & markers, and I just completed my facelift with a blacked out grill and the mesh treatment. Yesterday I did the mesh on the lower part too. I think all I want to do now is lower it about an inch.
In total I've spent about $2500 on power and cosmetics. I bought the car for $3500. I have 140K miles on it an it looks great. I couldn't be happier with this car. Thanks for all the feedback on this board. Saab folks are the greatest.
