On your '88, there is a tranny oil cooler thermostat. There are two hoses that go to a cylindrical thing mounted on a lower bracked, just aft of the radiator. Two hoses go from there to the oil cooler. It is very common for that thermostat to fail and leak. The cooler is a cylinder, and on the driver's side there is a metal plate held on by a BIG circlip. It is common to leak at that plate.
There are three solutions for the '88, if it is the thermostat. (1) replace thermostat - probably around $300. Not pretty. (2) remove thermostat and see if you can get a new O-ring for it. (3) remove thermostat and plumb around it. THis is the best approach. Saab removed the thermostat in later year cars. You get a kit that has two hoses, each goes directly from the tranny to the cooler. You toss out your old (and probably leaky) hoses. That is assuming the thermostat is what is leaking. Otherwise, as Urby says, check you hose lines. The rear one on the tranny can be hard to see.
As to the '95, there is no thermostat, so check the hoses.
Lastly, on the top of the thermostat is a plastic cap. That is the cap on the breather. Wipe the area around that cap clean (It's usually filthy), and drive the car a bit. See if it is leaking from there. If so, that's a bad sign. That usually means there is a seal blown internally, and the tranny is pushing fluid out of the breather.
