Some general musings on my experiences with radiator fan switches on 9000s: If the fan switch has never been previously removed, you will most probably do damage to the plastic end tank fitting for the fan switch when you pull it out. The metal throat (threaded portion) of the fan switch becomes fused to the mounting port plastic over time; the plastic degrades and becomes brittle - the rest is obvious. I have not found a way around this state of affairs. If you just want to test the switch, you don't have to remove it, however. Just jump the two leads going into the switch near the point where they enter the sensor housing, or disconnect the switch at it's connector, and jump the two leads inside the harness-side connector. With the engine running, this should make the fan come on. If the fan starts with the harness connector leads jumped, then the fan is okay. If upon reconnecting the connectors, and performing a similiar jump test at the fan switch (yes, this will require carefully removing the lead insulation so that it can be wrapped back into it's original position and then heavy wrapped with electrical tape) without any results at the fan, then the switch has died. If you're going to replace the switch, I would highly recommend getting one of the lower-temperature switches available from Tom Townsend (TSN sponsor and font of SAAB knowledge.)
