There was some very minor and infrequent rattling in the front and rear HK speakers, so over time I got good deals on Infinity Kappa 693.5i (6x9) and 42.5i (4" fronts). Just installed them over the past few days and the fronts were an improvement. BUUUUT, the rear is a tragedy! Very little bass, tinny highs. They aren't broken in yet... and I kept the 3" HK midranges hooked up. I put the 3-way Kappas in place of the HK 2-way 6x9's. I used the crossovers that came with the Kappas and ran everything from the two-wire lead that originally powered the HK 6x9's. A jumper still goes to the 3" midrange BEFORE the Kappa crossover. The 2-wire lead from each side that went to the HK tweeters is not used because the woofer's 2-wire lead goes into the Kappa crossover and two sets come out of it, one set for woofer, one set for the integrated mid/tweeter.
Can anyone say that I should remove the crossovers? Should I run the original HK tweeter lead to the Kappa tweeter and the other to the woofer/midrange as originally set up. If nothing works I'm putting the HK woofs back in.
Maybe it was foolish to think I could improve on the HK speaker setup??? The bass was full, strong and noticeable. Now it's weak.
