What's in your transmission now? You should know for sure what it is before messing with it. If it's conventional oil and you don't have a drain plug ('93 and before I think), you're best off sticking with that. If you have Saab synthethic in there already, you probably have a drain plug, and why not stick with that synthetic? It's pricey alright, but think about the cost of repairing/replacing a fried tranny. Besides, the system only takes 2 - 2.5 quarts (depending on year). A rebuilt tranny is around $1,500.
Are you topping up or replacing the fluid? There should be a compelling reason to replace the fluid. Best of luck.
