I hate the term obvious Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Thanks Ari, and just one more question..., vtsnaab ![]() ![]() |
Short of a large, smoking hole where the engine block used to be, very little in cars is obvious.
It all depends on what the probem is. Removing the door lock involves removing the door handle. That is two bolts - on on the striker side of the door, accessable with the door open. The other is at the front of the handle, and is only accessable with the door inner panel off, window up, and some good dexterity.
With the door handle off, it is pretty obvious how to remove the cylinder. The tumbler is held in a metal cylinder with the ends crimped over. If you can do what you want to do by leaving the tumbler inside the metal cylinder, do so. Getting the tumbler in and out of the cylinder is easy. The little spring-loaded door where the key enters was designed by mad trolls, and once it comes apart, will never go back together. Yes, some folks have done it, and I did once. But no guarantees. I usually just leave the little door off if forced to remove the tumbler from the metal cylinder.
I hope this helps.
