I looked at a 1991 auto turbo 9k hatch today with 130,000...the car is beautiful, well maintained with still-puffy leather and a clean engine and exterior. This would make my 5th 9000, and I'm finding myself driving my 951 around all the time because my 325e is incredibly boring to drive.
Here are the issues I found--
1. The car only makes base boost. This problem is insignificant, it looks like a bad apc solenoid since it is off the bracket and looks as though its been whacked by a fan blade or four. Easy fix.
2. The car is whining from the autobox from startup. It seems as though it is coming from the region of the bell housing--the car shifts PERFECT with tight off-the-line acceleration. The whining is almost like a screech, but not quite violent enough to call it that, but it is solely rpm dependent, and is loud enough to easily hear inside the car while cruising around with the windows open. The tranny fluid looks quite dark. Is the tranny on its death bed?
My options would first be to do a fully tranny flush, with at least 2 changes and a 10 mile or so drive in between. Could this cure it??
I also have a complete 1987 9000 Turbo 5 speed parts car available to me, where I convert the car to a 5 speed (the car is clean enough to warrant this).
Question: Will ALL the parts from an '87 5 speed work on a 1991?? Are the CV receivers the proper size?
I've pulled engines and put turbos on non turbo 9000's, labor is no issue.
Finally....
He is asking 2,000 for the car. I was thinking of offering $1400 cash on the spot. Is it worth it?
Thanks!!!! Evan
