Visually inspect the condition of the boots for starters. Any tears here and you should replace them in any event. Otherwise, gently but firmly apply prybar pressure to see if you can see movement -- the balljoint should have no play relative to the control arm.
You might also want to remove your wheel on that side and double check to make sure the two through bolts on the strut-to-swivel-member union are tight. If there's looseness there, PERHAPS there's some play, but not likely.
You could also grab the strut itself and give it a good shake to see if there's play at the strut bearing (on top of the strut), but if you have a bad strut bearing your car should be making a very annoying clunking sound from that area. It's rare that bad strut bearings would affect handling.
