Same as AMG: same car (but non-Aero), similar miles, same solution. It got to the point where it was alway in LHM. If you're curious, check the resistance of the safety valve (or whatever it's called) on the firewall. I think it's supposed to be about 30 or 50 Ohms. Mine was about 30 cold, when it warmed up (in LHM), it was about 5k. I just replaced the safety valve, not the check valve (the check valve seemed OK). The fact that the safety valve resistance changed so dramatically made it obvious that it was failing. I think the safety valve was about $75 a few years ago from EEuroparts.
I drove this way for several weeks with no apparent ill effects. It was kind of tricky keeping the engine running at intersections when it was cold (it wouldn't idle when cold). When the engine warmed up (in LHM), the engine idled poorly.
