Hello all,
Last week there was a thread about acetone as a fuel additive to increase MPG. In the same thread was a post about used ATF as a top cylander lube. I added 4 oz. of acetone and a qt. of used ATF to a 15 gal fill-up this weekend in my '89 9000S auto.
Now, a 2.0L n/a engine with an auto tranny is not exactly a "giddy-up" drive train. BUT, there was about a 15% increase of avg. MPG over 200 or so miles, rock solid idle, temp gauge solid at 9 o'clock, and acceleration that impressed me on a hot day (90-ish both days) with the A/C blowing hard. I've had this car for 6 yrs., and I don't recall it running this well in all that time.
I suspect part of the deal with the acetone is that it is a gentle solvent for fuel injector gunk and other deposits.
I'm sold.
