I suggest that you do a search for timing belt and tensioner on the NG900/9-3 board and the 9-5 board.
The setup is identical for those models and the topic has been talk about to great length over the years.
It isn't that many 9000 out there with the V6 engine so it doesn't get mentioned here so much.
It is a handful to replace the belt on those engines and should not be compared to a simple 4 cyl engine of Asian, German or Swedish design.
If the engine was running when the belt or tensioner broke, it is 100% chance that some or many valves are damaged.
If the engine was doing high rpm when it happened it could even have damaged the pistons.
