I have heard about the capacitor thing. I figured since my original one lasted 12 years in use, then one sitting on a shelf for that long would be fine since it would not be exposed to heat or vibration.
No guarantee, but I could probably wrangle a deal with the indy Saab shop that sent it to me, we have a good relationship. Actually, this was the 3rd player they sent to me, the other 2 were used and had various problems, one only played left channel, the other didn't read cd's. They found this one on a back shelf and were just a shocked as me that they had it. BTW, I trust these guys, they are not pulling a fast one. Dealing with em for years.
I have not tried a tape since swapping units, they did play fine last I checked (about a month ago I found a tape under the seat! ha ha ha).
I am wondering if something from the cd player wiring to the head unit is kabloowy...
