I had exactly the same problem, intermittent ABS light which later became permanent. It took me quite a while to find the problem as the insulating cover of the cable to the front wheel sensors looked absolutely perfect to the naked eye. I tested the ECU, all the connections and connectors etc. and then concentrated on the sensors to all four wheels. The right/front appeared to be the prime suspect so I purchased and fitted a known good second-hand one and the problem was solved. I then carefully took apart the known faulty one. The cable is a co-axial one, like a TV aerial. It has a woven wire sheath around an insulated solid wire core. The woven wire sheath had corroded away because a tiny pin-hole in the outer cover had allowed moisture to get in.The corroding woven wire often made enough contact to complete the electrical cicuit, but sometimes did not. As the corrosion got worse so the length of time that the ABS light was on increased until it became permanent.
Replace the front ABS connectors with a known good one, one after the other, and find the bad one. Leave the known good sensor in place and dissect the bad one, you'll find the same problem. I have now up-armoured the sensor cables with both additional tape bindings and lengths of slit-open neoprene pipe held in place with cable ties.
