Hey there,
I recently finished a head job on my 1993 9000 Aero. Once I completed the job, I started the car up only to find that cylinders 2 and 3 were running. The pistons in cylinders 1 and 4 were along for the ride. So, in an effort to determine what the problem might be I have done the following:
1) Since I sent the cylinder head out, I thought that maybe the exhaust and intake cams were switched. Checking the part numbers on each cam showed that they are the right cams in the right place. No problems here.
2) I thought that maybe the valves got screwed up somehow when the head got sent out, so I checked compression in each cylinder. No problems here.
3) Seeing that cylinders 2 and 3 were running, I decided to take off the fuel rail and switch the injectors (i.e. switch the injectors between cylinders 3 and 4 and cylinders 1 and 2). In this scenario, I expected that cylinders 1 and 4 would be up and running while 2 and 3 would be along for the ride. Not the case. Once again cylinders 2 and 3 were running while cylinders 1 and 4 were along for the ride. Conclusion - no problems with the injectors.
4) Then I tried 2 different Direct Ignition cassettes. The car was still running on cylinders 2 and 3. Once again, no problems with the Direct Ignition cassette.
5) So, I thought my Trionic computer was toast. I took the Trionic computer to my buddy's 1993 9000 Aero and hooked it up. His car started and ran with no problems with my Trionic computer. Conclusion?? My Trionic computer is not the problem.
6) I have wiring diagrams for a 1996 (OBD II) 9000. So, I decided that I could use some of this information to help me out. What I do know is that all of my injectors are wired properly to the Trionic computer as well as the fuel pump relay. I also know that all the wiring between the Direct Ignition Cassette and the Trionic computer is good as well. Conclusion - I am starting to get frustrated.
Anyhow, it appears that my problem is somewhere in the wiring. Can anybody out there shead some light on this? Is it a ground wire? Have a missed something obvious? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
As always... TIA.
