DI CASSETTE + CEL + PULLEY's Posted by Michael [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I previoulsy posted this before, and still looking for some more feedback:
It all started with the 'Check Engine Light (CEL)' coming on. So I reserched a few things and also have done the following:
1. I heard what sounded like a vacuum leak. I replaced all the vaccuum lines. Still hear somewhat of a hissing, but not quite as bad and not sure that its a vaccuum leak. Hard to tell because of the vibration coming from the tensioner pulley (see #2 below).
2. The tensioner pulley (the one with the shock absorber) is vibrating alot. I intend to replace this and the serpentine belt. Not sure if the rough vibration is causing some of the engine warnings?? Any feedback would be helpful.
3. I took the car to Autozone for a code check originally. Was told that cylinder #2 was misfiring. Posible causes (vaccuum leak, ignition, etc). Again I replaced all the vaccuum lines, and not sure if that pulley vibrating could of caused the CEL to come on?
4. Last week I removed the DI Cassette. Looked nice and clean inside the chamber, the DI Cassette itself was clean. The nodule (stem) where cylinder #2 was more white around the end than the others. (((I discovered that the plastic around one of the stems on the DI Cassette for cylinder #4 was cracked along the side. I have photos))) Not sure if this is a major issue or could be the cause of some problems, CEL, etc? So this is one item that I need to know (should I replace the DI Cassette?)
Otherwise the engine runs very well for 130k miles. That vibration does make it hard to tell of any other problems because it is idiling a bit fast as well.
I took some photos of the DI Cassette and the crack which I can forward if anyone can say whether it is a major issue or not. Also is this common? I believe this is the original for the car. After I replaced the DI it seemed to be running smoother. I have to tackle the plugs next.
Bottom line I need to know if 1) I should replace the DI Cassette? 2)Is there anything else that could sound like a vaccuum leak? 3) Could the tensioner pulley cause the CEL to come on? By the way the CEL is now off because I was cleaning the battery terminals and obvioulsy reset eveything. But does this mean that theres still a problem?
FYI: This is a 96 9000 CS 4 cylinder.
Any insight is well appreciated.
