You may have gotten a fragment of rubber seal into the brake line. I much prefer bleeding the brakes with pressure. I got a spare brake fluid reservoir cap and installed a Schraeder valve, to which I attach a bicycle pump and keep it at about 10 psi during bleeding. But first I suck out the old fluid and backfill twice, so I'm bleeding with clean fluid. I've run the reservoir dry too many times trying to bleed until the reservoir is empty, then re-filling. Get a Mity-Vac hand pump to suck the fluid out.
I once tried bleeding using the ABS pump, and there was air in the system, and I think this method just causes cavitation, which is microbubbles in the brake fluid. This makes your brakes feel spongy. Also, if there is a lot of air, the pump will not be properly primed, but then it should cause each one of your brake circuits to yield nothing when you open the valves.
For a solution to your problem, I would first try bleeding with pressure. Maybe going up to 20 psi would dislodge that piece, if that is indeed your problem.
