The fuel level sender is part of the fuel pump assembly. One of two things happened-
If the mechanic replace the entire assembly, which comes with a new fuel sender, the sender *may* have been incorrect from the factory.
Most likely though, is that the mechanic bent fuel sender arm installing the pump. It takes a bunch of fiddling to get the assembly in, and it's possible to bend the arm and not know it. That would be my assumption.
There is no calibration available.
If the sender is wrong, and the mechanic did the installation, I would bring it back and have him fix it at no cost. Either the sender was defective, or he damaged it in installation.
