I know this has been covered many times before...but even so, I couldn't find a definite answer in the archives that would have made the lightbulb go on.
The car is a '93 Aero. I've replaced the usual TCS things and just cleaned the throttle body to extinguish (for good) the CEL five-flasher. The TCS CTRL went out with that light and I haven't seen it since. Everything seems fine, but no boost.
The turbo seems willing right up to atmospheric pressure (bottom of the yellow in my experience), but then nothing after that. I've discounted the ECU so far by disconnecting the "W" hose from the BPC. Nothing different.
I looked under the car tonight and found the wastegate actuator rod connected, so tight I couldn't get it off in the time I had available to me. It had the Eclip and I nearly broke my elbox trying to get the damn thing off. It does seem like the wastegate is stuck, however. I couldn't move it more than 1/4" towards the passenger side without something getting hung up. I am 90% sure that it wasn't the actuator holding me back. Pulling it out of the mount a bit gave me more slack than I was getting trying to push the rod with the wastegate, as I said. Anyway, my question is this:
I've heard of wastegates getting stuck closed, and that = overboost, similar to pulling the W hose off of the BPC. I'm sure they can get stuck open too, but how is the wastegate oriented when stuck open? Right now, the rod is connected from the actuator to the wastegate. The wastegate "arm" I'll call it, is at 12 o'clock, pulled as far as it seems to go counter-clockwise. It would then, in theory, seem to move clockwise through it's motion to the open position. Or at least this is what happens on the TD-04 turbo. Can anyone confirm this with the T-25 please? I'm very curious.
The turbo seems fine in other respects, but I do need to test that hypothesis more too. I was hoping to find the problem at the wastegate actuator, but now I'm confused. I am encouraged by the willingness to boost through the vacuum and get to atmospheric pressure fast, but something is letting all of my boost out the door! : )
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to take a peek at their T-25.
