For what its worth, I have an 88 SPG that is undergoing a restoration of sorts. Its history (while up on blocks) is that the motor starts very easily. But one day, it wouldn't start. The fuel pump didn't pump but the sparks did spark. I tried jumping FP, which did run, but still no start, which meant the fuel injectors were not injecting, suggesting the ECU wasn't telling them to do so. I came to learn (after changing relays etc) that the problem was due to frayed wires going to the ECU. Wiggling the wires a bit got the car started. Before I put it on the road I will be sure to fix the harness.
My point being that you could have good components but bad connections between them. Remeber that wires are parts too. Could be the DIU??
good luck.
