I just flushed the system and refilled with Prestone LowTox (propylene glycol based) at approx 66/33 concentration. I immediately noticed that the car was running much, much cooler than it had been. For me, at the moment, I'm not believing claims that it has less heat transfer ability.
And, this has the added benefit of being less toxic to animals (people and wildlife) should it be spilled!
Again, I've never used this before. So, I'm going to keep an eye on this...corrosion and mineral deposits should be evident in the coolant reservoir. From past experience, draining and flushing every 60k miles should be fine with any of the older kinds, ethylene glycol based, assuming they're mixed properly. That's basically what I would expect from this... Time will tell though.
