The new transmission is on a skid in the barn, so that isn't the problem. These are the same parts that have been there for the 190K miles I've had the car.
After checking the list I believe bad lower motor mounts can cause this. I can't say I didn't have a warning about that - David Ingram told me in September:
"As to your rumble, I'd assume that's one of your lower motor mounts signalling their end of life, so you should probably attend to those."
I planned to do those when I did the transmission. I never thought THIS could happen without more warning than "a slight rumble when engine breaking".
Now I need to see what I might have wrecked associated with that carrier that the CV joint plugs into and whether I've wrecked the axle.
